Comfort First

Planned around you, not the clock

A valaikappu is several hours of sitting, bangles, blessings and relatives. Getting ready for it should not be the hardest part of the day.

Gentle on pregnancy skin

Skin is often more sensitive and more reactive in pregnancy. We keep the product list short, fragrance-light, and patch-test anything new beforehand.

Draped for your bump

The saree is pleated and pinned to sit above and around the bump comfortably, so it holds its shape without any pressure across your middle.

Breaks built in

You are not expected to sit still for two hours. The schedule assumes you will need to stand, stretch and use the bathroom, and it still finishes on time.

Light, breathable base

Nothing heavy or occlusive. A sheer, luminous finish that lasts the function without feeling like a layer you want to wash off by noon.

Hair off your face

A secure bun or braid with flowers, styled so nothing needs pushing back all afternoon while your hands are full of bangles.

At home, always

You should not be travelling to a salon for this. The full kit comes to your house at whatever time suits the function.

The Function

What a valaikappu actually needs

This function has its own rhythm, quite different from a wedding. Here is what we plan for.

Bangles change everything
Your arms will be full and raised repeatedly for photographs. Sleeves, drape and hair are all set with that movement in mind.

Daytime, indoors, warm
Usually a midday function in a warm room full of people. A light base with proper setting handles that better than heavy coverage.

Traditional but not bridal
Warm and festive rather than full bridal intensity. Most mothers want to look like themselves at their best, not transformed.

Flowers in the hair
Jasmine and roses set into a bun or braid. You arrange them with your florist and we build them in on the day.

Family in the frame
Your mother, mother-in-law and sisters are in every photograph. Their makeup can be added at a per-person rate agreed upfront.

Baby Shower Makeup — Questions

Is makeup safe during pregnancy?

Standard cosmetic makeup applied to the skin is generally considered fine, but sensitivity often increases in pregnancy. We keep the product list short and fragrance-light and patch-test anything new. If you have any concern at all, please check with your doctor first — we are makeup artists, not medical advisers.

How much does baby shower makeup cost in Chennai?

Valaikappu and seemantham looks are quoted per person and include makeup, hairstyling and saree draping. Send us the date and the function on WhatsApp and you will have a firm price the same day.

Can you drape a saree over a baby bump?

Yes, and it is a specific skill. Pleats are set and pinned to sit above and around the bump so the drape holds its shape without any pressure across your middle.

How long does it take to get ready?

About an hour and a half to two hours for makeup, hair and draping, with breaks built into the schedule. You are not expected to sit still throughout.

Will the makeup feel heavy through a long function?

It should not. We use a light, breathable base with proper setting rather than heavy coverage, precisely because these functions run long in warm rooms.

Do you come to my home for a baby shower?

Yes, always. You should not be travelling to a salon at this stage, and there is no travel charge inside Chennai city limits.

Can you do my mother's and sister's makeup as well?

Yes. Family makeup is added at a per-person rate agreed before you confirm — just tell us how many people so the time goes into the schedule.

What if I feel unwell on the day?

Tell us and we will slow down, take longer breaks or simplify the look. Nothing about the plan is more important than you being comfortable.
