Bridal Hairstyles in Chennai

The right bridal hairstyle is decided by three things you already know: your hair type, your neckline and which function it is for. Everything else is decoration.

  • Braids, buns & half-up
  • Matched to your neckline
  • Different look per function
  • Works on real hair lengths

The Options

Six styles, and who each suits

Rather than a mood board, here is the honest version — what each style demands and who it actually works for.

Traditional jadai

The full South Indian braid with flowers and kunjalam. Needs length or extensions, and is the natural choice for a muhurtham.

Messy braid

A softer, textured plait with pinned flowers. Very forgiving on fine hair and much lighter to wear through a long day.

Volume bun

Padded, sleek and secure. The best option for short hair, for receptions, and for anyone who dislikes weight hanging down their back.

Floral bun

A bun wrapped in jasmine or roses. Traditional, comfortable and particularly good for valaikappu and daytime functions.

Half-up styling

Hair down with the front secured. Suits engagements and lighter functions, but not a full day of ritual — it will not survive garlands.

Soft waves

Reception favourite with a lehenga or a designer saree. Needs a heat-set and setting spray to hold in Chennai humidity.

How To Choose

Let the neckline decide

Most brides choose a hairstyle from photographs and then fight with it on the day. Start from the outfit instead.

  1. 01

    Heavy embroidered blouse

Put the hair up. A bun or a braid pulled forward keeps the back of the blouse visible — you paid for that work, it should be in the photographs.

  2. 02

    Backless or deep-back blouse

A braid worn to the front or a high bun. Hair covering an open back defeats the design entirely.

  3. 03

    High-neck or closed blouse

You have freedom here. Loose waves and half-up styles work because there is nothing behind the hair to hide.

  4. 04

    Heavy jewellery on the neck

A full temple set needs hair off the neck so nothing competes or tangles. Up is almost always the right answer.

  5. 05

    Then check the function

Anything down or half-up struggles through a full muhurtham. Save those for the engagement or the reception.

FAQ

Bridal HairstylesQuestions

Which bridal hairstyle suits my face shape?
Face shape matters less than most articles suggest. Your neckline, your jewellery and the length of the function have far more influence on what actually works — that is where we start.
What is the best hairstyle for a muhurtham?
A jadai or a secured bun. Anything worn down or half-up will not survive the garland exchange, the sitting and the hours of ritual that a muhurtham involves.
Can I have a different hairstyle for each function?
Yes, and it makes the photographs from each event look distinct. The second style is planned at the trial and quoted before you confirm.
How long does bridal hairstyling take?
One to one and a half hours for most styles. A full jadai alangaram with flower work takes longer, and that is written into your getting-ready schedule.
Will my hairstyle hold in Chennai humidity?
It is set for it. Heat-setting, the right products and secure pinning are what stop a style dropping, and we re-pin between functions as well.
Can you do bridal hairstyles on short hair?
Yes. Extensions provide length for a braid, and padded buns work beautifully on short hair. Send us a photo of your hair and we will tell you honestly what will and will not work.
Do I need to bring anything for my hairstyle?
Your flowers, ordered from your florist, and any hair accessories such as jadai billai, kunjalam or pins you want used. We bring everything else.
Is hairstyling included with bridal makeup?
Yes. All our bridal packages from ₹7,999 include makeup, hairstyling and draping together — hair is never charged as a separate add-on.
