Bridal Dupatta Draping in Chennai
A lehenga is only as good as its dupatta. The way it is pinned decides your silhouette in every photograph — and whether you spend the evening holding it up with one hand.
- Single, double & veil styles
- Pinned to stay hands-free
- Shows the blouse work
- Reception & sangeet
Drape Options
Five ways to wear a dupatta
The right one depends on your blouse, your jewellery and whether you need both hands free.
Single-side drape
Over one shoulder, pinned at the shoulder and waist. The simplest and the most photographed — it keeps your silhouette clean.
Double dupatta
One over the head, one on the shoulder. Fuller, more traditional and the usual choice for the actual ceremony rather than the reception.
Veil style over the head
Pinned into the hairstyle so it frames the face without slipping back. Needs anchoring into the hair, not just onto the blouse.
Belt-set drape
Held with a waist belt over the lehenga. Defines the waist and keeps the fabric completely out of your hands all evening.
Cape or open-front
Pinned at both shoulders and left open. Modern, comfortable and particularly good for sangeet where you will be moving.
Pinned into the hair
Any head drape is anchored into the hairstyle itself. Pinning to the blouse alone is why dupattas slide backwards through an evening.
Getting It Right
Show the work you paid for
Brides routinely spend heavily on a blouse and then cover it entirely. A few decisions prevent that.
- 01
Look at the blouse first
Heavy back work means the dupatta goes to the front or one side. Covering an embroidered back with fabric wastes the outfit.
- 02
Match the drape to your jewellery
A statement necklace needs the dupatta off the chest. A simple neckline can carry a fuller front drape without looking crowded.
- 03
Pleat the fall, do not bunch it
Neat pleats at the shoulder read as intentional. A bunched dupatta reads as an accident in every photograph.
- 04
Decide about your hands
If you are dancing or eating, choose a belt-set or cape drape. If you are being photographed seated, a head drape is fine.
- 05
Bring the actual dupatta
Net, silk and organza behave completely differently. We will pin it correctly once we can feel the weight of the real fabric.
