A South Indian bridal look falls apart when three vendors each do their bit in isolation. Keeping them together is the whole point.

Makeup that reads against gold

Warm-toned base and eye work chosen after we see your actual jewellery, so the face holds its own next to a full temple set.

Jadai alangaram with real flowers

Jasmine, roses and kanakambaram built into the braid with kunjalam and jadai billai, weighted so it sits correctly all day.

Kanjivaram draped to your shape

Pleats set and pinned to your body, not to a standard. Six or nine yards, with the pallu positioned for how you will actually sit and walk.

Ordered around your rituals

Oonjal, kasi yatra, kanyadanam, muhurtham — the getting-ready order is planned around the ceremony sequence, not the other way round.

Holds through the homam

Smoke, heat and hours of sitting are planned for. The base, the braid and the drape are all set with that in mind.

Regional variations respected

A Tamil muhurtham, a Telugu pellikuthuru, a Kannada bride and a Malayali wedding are not the same look. We style to the tradition you are actually following.

South Indian is four states and many communities. These are the differences that actually change what we do on the morning.

Tamil brides
Kanjivaram or madisar, a long jadai with kunjalam, maang tikka and nathu, and an early muhurtham that usually means a 2–3 AM start.

Telugu brides
Pellikuthuru and pellikoduku functions, distinctive jewellery placement and often a lighter face for the daytime rituals with fuller glam for the reception.

Kannada brides
Ilkal and Mysore silk styling, a characteristic saree drape and a floral bun or braid rather than a full jadai in many families.

Malayali brides
Kasavu cream-and-gold, deliberately restrained jewellery and a soft, luminous face — over-styling a Kerala bride is the classic mistake.

I had an incredible experience with Shaarmika's bridal studio. Not only is she an extremely talented and Professional Artist, she is also a really down to earth person. She curated very personalized Makeup Looks for each of my Wedding function which was all done so well. Not only did I look different, she still managed to keep all the looks very natural and neat. Rekha, was also very helpful and made valuable suggestions for my outfits and jewellery. I had a really wonderful experience with her and I am super Happy to have chosen her for my Wedding Makeup. My family and I were very concerned about safety and hygiene. But, Rekha and her Team were extremely mindful about this. They were all wearing Masks, kept sanitising their hands & tools. This was indeed a great relief. Also, something else I have to mention here is that, there were a quite a lot of people from my family who wished to get dressed, but, at the same time we did not want to hire multiple artists or have a large team. And this issue was handled very professionally by Shaarmika's. There were compliments galore from family and friends and I have to thank Shaarmika's for this. South Indian Bridal Makeup — Questions

What is included in South Indian bridal makeup?

The complete look — bridal makeup, hairstyling with jadai alangaram, saree draping and jewellery setting. All of it is done by the same artist, which is why the pieces actually match on the day.

Do you do jadai alangaram with real flowers?

Yes. Jasmine, roses and kanakambaram are built into the braid with kunjalam and jadai billai. You arrange the flowers with your florist and we build the jadai with them on the morning.

Can you drape a madisar saree?

Yes, both the Iyer and Iyengar styles. Madisar takes longer than a standard drape, so tell us when you book and we will build the extra time into the schedule.

How much does a South Indian bridal look cost in Chennai?

From ₹7,999 for the Silver package, which covers makeup, hairstyling and draping. Gold at ₹9,999 adds a pre-bridal facial and lashes; Platinum at ₹14,999 adds hair extensions, a jewellery set and the groom's makeover.

How long does the full South Indian bridal look take?

Three to four hours for makeup, jadai and draping together. For a 6 AM muhurtham that usually means starting between 2 and 3 AM, and you receive a written schedule beforehand.

Do you style Telugu, Kannada and Malayali brides too?

Yes. The regional differences in jewellery, drape and hair are real and we style to the tradition your family follows rather than applying one generic South Indian look.

Should my makeup be heavy to match temple jewellery?

Not necessarily. Heavy jewellery carries a lot of visual weight, so a face that is warm and defined but not overloaded usually photographs better beside it. We decide after seeing the actual set.

Do you set the maang tikka, nathu and jewellery?

Yes, jewellery setting is part of the booking. Pieces are pinned and weighted so they sit level and stay put through the ceremony instead of sliding through the day.
